MEDUSA "Get Hard"

One of the many joys that come from listening to Medusa is the anticipation - it's hard to know what’s going to hit you after that next verse or as the bridge wraps up. There are subversive and sometimes violent shifts. What was once a sweet little ditty suddenly transforms into the furnace in Kevin McCallister’s basement. It’s a Jekel / Hyde identity split and its god damn wondrous.

I remember the very first time I booked Medusa to play in my basement for the label’s 8 year annie, which now seems like a lifetime away. They crept in, snuck around, kept a very low profile. They had the self deprecating mic-talk that seems to afflict so many brilliant creators. Witnessing the transformation of the person I met then to the person who’s racking up a million streams on Spotify now is cause for celebration. There’s still self depreciation, but it's matched with a kind of poise and bravado that really shows you how much has changed.

I think Medusa would agree that starting to make music can be a vulnerable experience, learning how to break in, how to discover your own voice. But they've managed to set a standard of quality and it's one I know they fight hard to meet with every release.

“Get Hard” is a resounding continuation of that tradition.
